Soundproofing in Style

We are working on a new project for a heritage client and her new hubby.  They are both in their seventies and have back issues and some arthritis but wish to age in place in a condo we renovated 11 years ago.   We are working on the kitchen and a refresh of the living room and bedroom, but the twenty-one-year-old kitchen is going to get a major overhaul.

We have designed custom cabinetry with a palette of white, blue and copper.  The upper cabinets will be white, with blue base cabinets.  The appliances are matte white with copper hardware.  We designed a custom hood in white with copper strapping, and a copper pot filler and faucet.  We have opted for induction cooking and a wall oven underneath.

An average pantry closet will be transformed with pullouts, a custom spice center and room for small appliances.   We have also created space for a coffee station and relocated the microwave to create more space on the “cooking” wall.

With the clients both having back issues, and loving to cook together, the discussion turned to cork flooring and the benefits of this resilient materiality.   In addition to being easier on the joints, the acoustical properties will help to create a calming area, conducive to meal prep and collaboration.

We are sourcing our cork tiles from PID floors in New York.   They source from Portugal and have a water-resistant finish, in addition to great design and color choices.

While these attributes are most important to our clients, cork has so many other wonderful properties, including the beautiful and functional interior panels that will enhance any space.

When you think of improving your home's or office's interior, you might consider new furniture, fresh paint, or trendy decor. But have you ever thought about how the space sounds? This is where interior acoustical panels come into play. Not only do they help create a quieter, more pleasant environment, but they also add a touch of beauty to your decor.

Acoustical panels are specially designed to absorb sound. Imagine you're in a large, empty room, and your voice echoes off the walls. Acoustical panels help reduce that echo, making conversations clearer and the environment more comfortable. Available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, each tailored to specific sound problems.  Modern acoustical panels aren't just functional; they're also stylish, offered in many colors, patterns, and textures, which add a decorative element to any room.

There is a myriad of categories when looking at Acoustical Panels.  First, there are fabric-wrapped panels, blending in with your existing decor or becoming a focal point in the room.

You may also opt for wood panels, which offer a more natural look, while providing excellent sound absorption and a touch of elegance. They can be stained or painted to match your style.

Art Panels can also be a creative solution providing sound attenuation while doubling as artwork. You can choose from various designs or even custom prints to turn soundproofing into a statement piece.

Many of you may be familiar with acoustical ceiling tiles.  We have seen them in office interiors and often in basements.  These are perfect for large rooms or open-plan spaces. Ceiling panels help manage sound from above, making the entire room quieter.

Acoustical tiles can be used in home theaters, where they will enhance your television and movie-watching experience while reducing echoes and improving sound clarity. You can create a more productive work environment using acoustical tiles, as they reduce noise from conversations, phones, and office equipment. We have all seen them installed in learning environments and in restaurants and cafes, improving focus in the former and fostering a more convivial conversation and dining experience in the latter.

Acoustical panels are a smart and stylish way to improve any interior space. Whether you're looking to create a peaceful home environment, a productive office, or a high-quality audio experience, acoustical panels are the perfect solution. Embrace the beauty and functionality of these panels and transform your space into a haven of sound and style.
