Convertible Furniture

As we get ready for the Holiday weekend, our patriotic mindfulness I have always been a huge fan of convertible furniture. In fact, we just purchased a great console table for the daughter of one of my dear clients, who has her first “big girl” apartment. The table will act as a desk/remote meeting space by day and can extend to seat up to eight when she wishes to entertain friends and family.

One of my favorite go-to vendors is Resource Furniture. Challie Stillman, who was my student in 2009, and has continued to grow with the company, generously giving of her time by providing students tours each year. The best part is that I get to see what new and incredible items they have added to their offerings! Resource Furniture’s founding partners were living in tight NYC spaces and felt that the market needed furnishings that could perform multiple functions in small spaces. The company has been serving the design community and the public and has also gone on to design hotel suites outfitted with flexible furnishings. They manufacture in Italy and has very strict quality control measures.

I am particularly fascinated with their Goliath concertina extension table, the storage and wall beds and the complex wall systems that they have created. You can click here to learn more about them and watch the video here titled Design Differently With Resource where Challie demos the furnishings in a small space.

Other companies have hit the market with some of the same offerings. Murphy beds have now been renamed as “wall beds” and Transform is one company that expanded from closets to remote control and hydraulic lift beds. Are you intrigued? Click here to read more on convertible furniture.
